Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1988. He holds a BFA in Oil Painting from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and an MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Brussels. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Macau University of Science and Technology and teaches at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts.
As one of the foremost artists of China's 'post-85' generation, Zhang Zhaoying's practice is rooted in a long-term investigation into the history of images, reconstructing a 'personal field' through subversive discourse. His work demonstrates a global perspective, embodying a hybrid conceptual site that is interdisciplinary, translingual, and transtemporal.
