Qi Wenzhang
Qi Wenzhang's practice delvesdeeply into the formal language of modernism while engaging with a broad visionof reality, extracting and reconstructing imagery through a highly personalartistic vernacular to evoke an atmosphere of absurdity. He consistentlyportrays the "unnamed figures" within social spaces, observing theirlived realities from a grounded, equal perspective, positioning himself as anobserver detached from the pictorial narrative. His works merge elements ofrealism and romanticism. Through highly distilled forms and distinctive use ofcolor, he excavates human dignity and meaning from the fabric of everyday life,exploring the relationships between reality and illusion, and the individualand society.
Qi Wenzhang, born in Shandong in 1981,currently lives and works in Shanghai.
